It’s sad, but not surprising, that Bryan Stow is the first Giants fan to be severely beaten in the Dodger Stadium parking lot last weekend.
I’ve walked that parking lot many times. I’ve see Dodgers fans yell obscenities at anyone wearing orange and black. I’ve seen them throw beer cans at anyone wearing an “SF” cap.
I thought it was dangerous to be an opposing fan in the Oakland Coliseum parking lot for an NFL Raiders game, but the Giants-Dodgers rivalry takes fan violence to another level.
It’s good to see that Stow is improving. No matter what he said or what he did, it did not warrant the horrific beating he took.
Yet, I’m not sure the Los Angeles Police Department’s promise Thursday to beef up patrols at Dodger Stadium will make that much of a difference. The stadium’s parking lot seems to go on for acres and, when it’s dark, the asphalt is even less inviting.
This incident won’t keep me from going to Dodger Stadium again or diminish some very nice memories I have of the park. But it makes me proceed with even more caution the next time I leave the stadium. And I certainly won’t wear my favorite team’s logo.

Bill,
This will sound immoral but I wish that when those cowardly thugs are caught they would get the same treatment that was given to Mr.Stow. It would certainly have an impact on how misfits act.
I recently had a close call in a strip mall parking lot
and realized how close I came to innocently fueling
road rage but I swallowed my pride and drove away.
I realized that you have to be cautious as to what you say and how you say it.
HI, I remember there being a few shootings in the Arco Arena parking lot between drunken Kings fans a few years back, duh, that’s why there are metal detectors at every arena, because people drink and take the game waaaay tooo seriously.
